An engineer fell prey to tricksters who conned him into parting with Rs eight lakh on the promise of providing a government job.

Kamalakannan, an electrical engineering graduate, said a man from Kannampalayam area whom his father contacted for a job for him had demanded Rs eight lakh and gave an assurance of employment, either in the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board or Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant.

Though the amount was deposited in the man's account some months back there was no sign of the promised job and the trio who duped him also did not refund the money, he said in his complaint to Superintendent of Police, Sudhakar.

They also threatened him with dire consequences if the matter was reported to police.

Based on Kamalakannan's complaint, investigations have been initiated, police said.
