Engineer gets 1 year jail for taking Rs 1k bribe 13 years ago

An assistant executive engineer of Tamil Nadu Electricity Board in Coonoor near here was today sentenced to one year imprisonment by a court for taking a bribe of Rs 1,000 in 2003.

Sub-court judge M Thangavelu found Rajendraprasad guilty of taking the bribe for giving power connection to a new building while he was working as an Assistant Engineer 13 years ago.

According to the prosecution, on a complaint from the building contractor, Directorate of Vigilance and Anti Corruption had laid a trap and arrested the official while accepting the bribe.
