Engineer held for attempting to steal money from bank

An electrical engineer was arrested by Muradnagar police for allegedly attempting to steal money from a bank here.

According to police, the accused, Deepak, broke open the concrete wall from the rear side and entered the branch of SBI located at Ordinance factory area here to steal cash from the money vault.

Deepak, who worked as an electrical contractor with the Gurgaon electricity department, told police that he needed Rs 35 lakh to pay his debts, police said.

Last night, a patrolling police team noticed that lights inside the bank were blinking following which they reached the main entrance and heard some sounds coming from inside, Muradnagar SHO Ummed Yadav said.
 

Additional police force, bank manager and security guards were then called and the main gate was opened for checking, he said, adding, as the police team went inside, they found Deepak cutting the money vault.

Police have recovered .315 caliber country-made pistol, two live cartridges, one electronic cutter, hammer, pliers, screw-driver, eatables, fruits, snacks and one liquor bottle from the spot.

Deepak was arrested in the intervening night of August 16 and 17, the SHO said, adding, an FIR has been lodged in this connection and investigations are underway.
