Amit Kumar Mandal, a diploma engineering student, Purander Singh Khora, Siba Sankar Khora and Lalu Kuldeep were apprehended by a police team on charge of intercepting the car of a trader Narottam Lokesh on Monday night.
The four had cited the pretext of routine checking as they intercepted the vehicle near Kanimera in the Laxmipur police station area.
Police said the four, who were sporting khaki uniform, identified themselves as policemen and started frisking the vehicle of Lokesh citing security reasons.
However, as they discovered a few new mobile phones, which the trader had kept for sale, they decamped with the same besides looting some cash, SDPO, Laxmipur, Y Jagannath Rao said.
The trader later lodged a complaint at Laxmipur police station and the four were arrested yesterday and the looted articles recovered, the SDPO said.
