Engineering student impersonating as vigilance cop arrested

An engineering student of a government run institute at Mohali near here was arrested for allegedly posing as a vigilance officer and demanding money, police said today.

The Punjab Vigilance Bureau received a complaint from a chief engineer-rank officer that some unknown person pretending to be a senior vigilance cop has been sending e-mails threatening him and demanding money, an official spokesman said.

The case was referred to the cyber crime branch of Punjab police. An FIR was registered in this connection on April 15.

After investigation, cyber crime personnel arrested Barda Parsana Biswal, a resident of Orissa, who was responsible for sending the emails to the government official in the name of senior officer of Vigilance Bureau, the spokesman said.
 

The accused is a student of M.Tech in Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (CDAC), Mohali, he said.
