Engineers, labourers 'abducted' by Naxals; freed later

Four armed Naxals here allegedly abducted two contractors and two labourers who were later freed in Khanapur mandal of the district in Telangana today.

Four Naxals, under the banner of 'New Democracy', allegedly abducted contractors -- Venkateshwar Reddy and Shirish Reddy -- in the forest area in Manubothulagadda village of Khanapur mandal while they were undertaking a road laying construction work, Deputy Superintendent of Police, D Muralidhar said.

The officer said the Naxals threatened the four persons with the weapons they were carrying and demanded money to fund their outfit. But, they were later freed in the evening in Tekulatanda area in Khanapur forest, he said.
 

Soon after the incident, the police sounded an alert in forest and areas concerned in the district and launched an operation to nab the ultras.
