Ensure better management of sugar mills: Khattar

Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar today asked officials to make management of cooperative sugar mills more active, efficient and accountable in order to improve their financial condition.

He also directed them to strictly enforce e-tendering system for the sale of sugar in all mills.

The Chief Minister gave these directions while presiding over a meeting for improving the functioning of state cooperative sugar mills here.

Khattar gave approval for running the Panipat Cooperative Sugar Mill on Public Private Partnership (PPP) model, which is being shifted near Nahar village.

He also approved enhancement of the existing capacity of Panipat Cooperative Sugar Mill from 1800 TCD (tonnes cane per day) to 5,000 TCD. The new mill will produce refined sugar and will have a cogeneration plant, ethanol plant and distillery.
 

The Chief Minister directed officers to take the services of experienced professionals in the relevant field which would not only help check the losses but also ensure better commercial management which would make these mills financially viable.

Approval has also been given for setting up 60 KLPD ethanol plant at a cost of Rs 82 crore in Shahabad Cooperative Sugar Mill to produce ethanol from molasses, which is a by-product obtained in the process of producing sugar.

Besides, Karnal Cooperative Sugar Mill would be expanded and modernised with increase in its capacity from 22 TCD to 3500 TCD.
