The Haryana government today asked all technical institutions and universities in the state to ensure strict implementation of E-waste (Management and Handling) Rule.

"All the under graduate and post graduate diploma level technical institutions and universities in the state have been asked to ensure that e-waste generated by them is channelised to authorised collection centres or registered dismantlers or authorised recyclers or returned to pick up or take back services provided by the producers," a government spokesman said.

The E-waste (Management and Handling) Rule, 2011 is applicable on bulk users, producers, dismantlers and recyclers of E-waste.

The spokesman said the departments and institutes also come under the bulk users category.

Principals and directors of the institutes concerned have been appointed as nodal officer for this purpose and they would have to maintain records available for scrutiny, he said, adding that strict action would be taken against those who failed to comply with the order.
