China's environmental police force made its debut by arrestingtwo suspects for discharging unprocessed industrial waste water from their plants, official media reported today.
The suspects were caught on Wednesday, when the new specialist police force, focusing on environmental protection, food and drugs, as well as tourism, was inaugurated, said a police officer with the Beijing Municipal Public Security Bureau.
After being arrested, both suspects confessed to discharging unprocessed industrial waste water from their plants in Fangshan district, and will face criminal charges.
Police received clues from the environmental protection department on January 15 before a joint investigation team by police and environment workers was formed, state-run Xinhua news agency reported.
