"Besides Tirupati Panigrahi, his two associates Madhusudan Panigrahi and Tirupati Chaudhury of Rajdhani Management & Estate have been arrested," Additional Director General (ADG) of police, Crime Branch B K Sharma told reporters here.
They were arrested on the charges of amassing crores of rupees by giving false promises of land to people in different areas in the state capital, Sharma said.
Stating that the EOW had received indication of the existence of a well organised land racket, Sharma said a case was registered under section 420 (cheating) and 506 (threatening to kill) of IPC against the three based on the complaint from a man, who was allegedly cheated by the trio.
"The man had paid Rs 1.80 lakh to Panigrahi's company. Even as he completed payment of the asked amount in 30 instalments by 2009, he was yet to be given land. When the man demanded land, he was threatened with dire consequences," Sharma pointed out.
"The trio will be produced in the court in the evening," Sharma said.
Sharma appealed to people to verify credentials of any company before depositing money. Some companies were luring people with land at cheap price and finally vanish with their deposits, he said.
