Celebrating its anniversary after rebranding, football news portal ESPN FC is gearing up to dish out unmatched content in the build up to the FIFA World Cup next year besides offering rolling coverage from leagues across the globe.

The website, originally entitled ESPN Soccernet, aims to become the top destination for football coverage year-round online and on mobile devices.

"We continue to provide emphasis on expanding coverage of the world's most popular game. Our aim is to generate original content, provide breaking news, live action and expert opinions through our platform," said Bimal Kapadia, Senior Director, ESPN.

"With the World Cup less than 10 months away we aim to deliver excellent day to day coverage in the build up to the event apart from latest happenings in the major soccer leagues of the world," he said.

The company sees great potential in the Indian market which is one of the major traffic contributor on digital platforms.

"We find immense potential in the Indian market. In India, audience engagement and mobile visits is growing rapidly. One of ESPN FC's biggest successes to date on digital platforms is online and mobile video - where India and the APAC region have been major contributors," he said.

On coverage to Indian football and domestic leagues, Kapadia said: "Our coverage of Indian football would depend on how fast people embrace the domestic league. There has to be some demand for Indian football first. We know cricket is still a favoured sport in India.
