Essar Ports on Tuesday said its Hazira terminal in Gujarat handled 7 million tonne cargo during the June quarter, a rise of about 3 per cent from the year-ago period.

The terminal had handled 6.8 million tonne (MT) cargo during April-June 2018-19, Essar Ports said in a statement.

"Essar Bulk Terminal Ltd (EBTL), that operates the 50 MTPA terminal in Hazira, also announces 22 per cent growth in its third-party business in the quarter ended June 30, 2019," it said.

Essar Ports is one of India's largest private sector port and terminal developers and operators. The company has invested Rs 11,000 crore in developing five terminals in three states in the country, the statement said.

Its current operations span four terminals with a combined capacity of 110 metric tonne per annum (MTPA), which is roughly 5 per cent of India's port capacity.

The Hazira port terminal is an all-weather, deep-draft port terminal capable of handling dry bulk, liquid and break bulk cargo.
