Essar Power has made a plea to the Coal Ministry to reconsider termination notice for Tokisud North mine in Jharkhand over not paying the upfront amount.

"Senior Executives of Essar Power met the officials of Coal Ministry yesterday and requested the government to reconsider the termination notice," a Coal Ministry official said.

Essar Power had paid the first installment in time but defaulted on the second and third installments, the official said.

"The executives of Essar Power wanted to pay the balance amount," the official said adding the Coal Ministry had issued the termination notice to Essar Power this month.

Calls made to Essar Power in this regard remained unanswered.

Essar Power MP Ltd, an arm of Essar Power, had bagged the Tokisud North mine in the auctions held last year.

Essar Power MP had earlier announced signing of the Coal Mine Development and Production Agreement with the central government for the Tokisud North coal block in Jharkhand.
