The power supply went off in the city and elsewhere around 2 AM as the people were preparing for 'Sehri' (taking of meals before the day long Ramzan fast), causing tremendous hardships to them.

Minutes later, the water supply also went off further adding to the miseries of the people.

The failure of the power supply also hit hospitals and communication with a large number of BSNL subscribers complaining of failure to connect a call.

However, people in the city got some respite in the afternoon when the electricity was briefly restored after nearly a 10-hour suspension.

A spokesman of the Power Development Department said the failure of the Northern Gird resulted in the power crisis.

"We are hopeful that the power supply will be restored soon," he said regretting the inconvenience caused to the people.
