Power Secretary P Uma Shankar said, "Some of the areas would be insulated from these kind of incidents, we are looking at that...They may be based on geography or services, we are looking into it."
"We are working on whether we can have separate kind of (transmission) islands which would be insulated from these kind of incidents," Shankar told reporters.
In the worst ever power crisis, over half of the country's 1.2 billion population in 21 states went without electricity for several hours yesterday as three major transmission grids failed, bringing northern, eastern and north-eastern regions to a grinding halt.
The failure came less than 24 hours after the Northern Grid on Monday collapsed and was later revived.
The Power Ministry has constituted a three-member committee comprising CEA Chairperson A S Bakshi, CMD Power Grid R N Nayak, CEO POSOCO (Power System Operation Corp) S K Soonee to look into the power grid failures.
"We have to take the best possible step subsequently in few days more measure will come. Power Grid has taken a lot of global best practices its an evolving system we are continuously doing that (adopting best grid practices).
"We need to look at the different aspects of this problem and then come up with a reason as to why it happened. Overdrawal, overloading, all these things are being talked about, the committee will find out the reasons," Shankar said.
The proposal for setting up a dedicated transmission network for essential services or cities may be inculcated in the report. However, nothing is finalised as yet. (MORE)
