French opthalmic lens maker Essilor is bullish on Indian market and its local subsidiary clocked a sales growth of 20 per cent last year.

"We are very bullish on the Indian spectacle lens market. In last calendar year, Essilor India's sales grew by 20 per cent," group COO Ramachandan P told reporters here today.

He said sales growth was expected to be the same in the current year.

Essilor India today announced that former Indian skipper Saurav Ganguly would be its brand ambassador for three years.

The official said 65 per cent of the spectacle lens market was plastic in India. The balance was glass lenses.

"About 130-140 million ophthalmic lenses are sold annually in India.

"India is among the fastest growing countries in the world along with China, Turkey and Brazil," he said.
