Gulf carrier Etihad, which holds 24 per cent stake in domestic private airline Jet Airways, today said it will launch an additional daily flight on the Abu Dhabi-New York City route from March 1.

The proposed flight will provide additional one-stop links to the US for the Indian travellers and an easy, new option for travel from America to India, Etihad said in a release here.

"The new flights will be operated with two tri-class Boeing 777-300ER aircraft, to be leased from Jet Airways," it said.

From May 1, Jet Airways will operate these flights, the airline said adding, and the new service has been scheduled to connect with evening services by Etihad Airways, Jet Airways or both the carriers arriving from Mumbai, Delhi, Cochin and Chennai.

Flights arriving back from New York will also connect from Abu Dhabi to these cities, it said.

"These services will provide greater access to New York. Our decision to lease aircraft from Jet Airways also illustrates one of the broader benefits available through our strategic partnership, which benefits both airlines as well as travellers," Etihad Airways president and chief executive James Hogan said in the release.

The airline said it will also commence services to two new US destinations- a daily service to Los Angeles from June and three flights per week to Dallas-Fort Worth from December this year.
