Eve-teasing: Girl succumbs to burn injuries

A 17-year-old girl who had set herself on fire allegedly due to harassment by two youths succumbed to her burns today, police said.

The girl, a student of Std XII, had doused herself with kerosene and set herself on fire on February 23 at Sunarakh village under Vrindavan police station.

She was allegedly driven towards taking the extreme step due to continuous harassment by the two accused.

"She was being treated in Agra for 85 per cent burns but could not be saved. The accused youths are in jail," said SP (city) Mukul Dwivedi.

"The Chief Minister has granted ex-gratia assistance of Rs 5 lakh to the girl, who was appearing for her Std XII exam," he added.
 

The accused duo has been booked under the relevant provisions of IPC and POCSO Act, he said.
