Heavy traffic snarls were witnessed in several parts of the national capital today, due to the traffic arrangement for the frequent VVIP movement during the India-Africa Forum Summit.
As Prime Minister Narendra Modi hosted a dinner for the delegates at the Pragati Maidan, motorists faced a hard time reaching homes as the traffic police had shut down a part of the Mathura Road and Bhairon Road till late night throwing the peak hour traffic out of gear.
The chaos started at around 7 PM when vehicles heading for north and central Delhi were stopped short of the Subramanium Bharti Marg. The hour-long blocking of the road led to snarls which soon reached Defence Colony flyover in the south and Daryaganj in north Delhi.

According to a senior traffic official, the major cause of the congestion was the diversions from Lutyens' Delhi which sent traffic to Mathura Road.
