Eveteasing: accused youths held after girl immolates self

Two youths have been arrested after a schoolgirl, who they harassed, set herself on fire in Uttar Pradesh's Mathura district, police said today.

The accused, identified as Raja Babu and Manoj alias Variety were arrested last night from Sunarakha village under Vrindaban police station, Superintendent of Police, City, Mukul Dwivedi said.

They have been booked under sections 354 (assault with intent to outrage modesty), 306 (abetment of suicide) and 555 (attempting to commit punishable offences) of IPC and protection of children from sexual offences (POCSO) Act, the SP said.

The girl, who is to sit for her board examinations this year, had set herself afire yesterday after being repeatedly harassed allegedly by two boys on her way to school, police said.
 

The girl had poured kerosene on her body and set herself afire yesterday when she was alone in the house. The neighbours, who heard her cries, rushed her to a local hospital from where she was taken to S N Medical College in Agra, the SP said.

He said the girl sustained 85 per cent burns and was still critical.
