Commercial activities in JSPL area got hit as slogan shouting villagers from about 40 nearby areas squatted on the road connecting Angul and Chendipada.
"We are hopeful the villagers will come forward for discussion to sort out the imbroglio", a spokesman of JSPL said adding Rehabilitation and Peripheral Development Advisory Committee (RPDAC) is to finalise the quantum of compensation.
Accusing district administration of reneging on its assurance, Sanatan Sahu, the Secretary of Birankeswar Shilpanchal Khyatigrastha Prajasangha which spearheaded the agitation, said the affected people were assured that their demands would be taken up at the RPDAC meeting.
On January 25, a 19-day economic blockade had been launched and on being assured by the district administration that their demands would be taken up in the RPDAC, they had withdrawn the agitation, Sahu said.
However, no meeting had been convened so far and people were facing problems, he said adding no RPDAC meeting was held in the district for last three years.
The Revenue Division Commissioner (RDC), Arabinda Padhee who had visited the area yesterday had discussion with the district administration and company officials over the issue and convened a meeting.
Asked as to when the RPDAC meeting would be convented, Padhi said "It will be convened soon.
