A local court today slapped a fine of Rs 10,000 each on former Asom Sahitya Sabha President and Editor of a vernacular daily Kanak Sen Deka and two of his colleagues in a seven-year old defamation case.

The Session Court of Kamrup Metropolitan district ordered three months simple imprisonment for the three convicted persons in case of non-payment of fine.

Deka, Editor of 'Dainik Agradoot', and two other colleagues of him were initially named accused over a news published in the paper in 2007 which had named a prominent singer as an accused in a murder case.

They were convicted earlier in the day.
