Ex-CJI Venkatachaliah, scientist Kasturirangan to be honoured

Former Supreme Court Chief Justice M N Venkatachaliah and noted space scientist K Kasturirangan are among 59 eminent personalities who have been bestowed with the State Award for the year 2014, on the occasion of Karnataka formation day.

Asian Games double medallist M R Poovamma, and member of Indian women's Kabbadi team Mamta Poojari have also made it to the list announced by the government in a statement here.

Among others who have won the award for this year include veteran South Indian playback singer S Janaki and the states' literary body Kannada Sahithya Parishath.

State Award 'Rajya Prashasti' is given to eminent personalities from various fields including art, cinema, media, theatre, sports, and science every year on the occasion of Karnataka Rajyotsava-the state formation day on November 1.
