Ex-CMHO gets 3 years jail for accepting bribe

An ex-Chief Medical and Health Officer (CMHO) was sentenced to three years rigorous imprisonment by a special court for taking a bribe of Rs 10,000 in 2005.

In the verdict pronounced yesterday, the court also imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 on Kajod Mal Meena, said Ahasan Ahamad, Assistant Director Prosecution (ADP) of the Anti-Corruption Bureau.

Meena, who served as CMHO in Bundi was arrested in 2005 while accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000 from Narayan Singh, a Janmangal Joda (a government health scheme for couples) Coordinator, Ahamad said.

Meena demanded a bribe of Rs 15,000 for sanctioning Travelling Allowance Bill to Singh of which Rs 5,000 was already paid, he said, adding ACB sleuths arrested the CMHO in 2005 following a complaint by Singh.
