In what could have been a rerun of the recent farmer's suicide, a 42-year-old former municipal corporation employee, who was protesting with other colleagues, allegedly tried to commit suicide by hanging himself from a tree in east Delhi's Shahdara area.

The victim identified as Kamal, a resident of Vishwas Nagar area, earlier worked in Shahdara south zone Municipal Corporation, had been expelled from his job recently.

The incident took place around 12:30 PM when several employees who were recently dismissed were protesting in front of the Corporation headquarters at Patparganj.

They have been protesting for the last 14 days.

"Suddenly, Kamal climbed a nearby tree shouting that he will commit suicide even as some people scrambled to save him. He was trying to tie a knot with a cloth when some of his colleagues reached the branch and tried to bring him down, but he fell down," a police official said.

He was injured due to the fall and he was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was undergoing treatment.
