A former Deputy Commandant of an Armed Reserved camp here was on Tuesday arrested in connection with the suicide of a constable last month allegedly following harassment by his colleagues, crime branch sources said.
This is the first arrest in the case.
S Surendran, 60, former commandant of the Kallekad AR camp, was summoned to the crime branch office here and his arrested recorded, crime branch SP Bastin Sabu told PTI.
"The arrest is for abetting the suicide of the constable through some of his actions," Sabu said.
Kumar, a 30-year-old constable belonging to the scheduled tribe, had allegedly committed suicide on July 25.

Earlier, seven police personnel had been suspended, pending inquiry in connection with the case.
Kumar's wife, Sajini, and some relatives had met the Crime branch Superintendent of Police on Tuesday morning.
Sajini told reporters she was satisfied with the progress in the case and the family was keen that the investigation was completed as early as possible.
Sajini and other family members had met met Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan seeking judicial probe into the death.
Kumar's body was found on the railway track at Lakkidi near Shornur.
