Ex-IAS officer jailed for 20 months in DA case

A special vigilance court here today convicted a retired IAS officer Ramesh Charan Behera in a 24-year-old disproportionate asset (DA) case and sentenced him to 20 month imprisonment.

Judge Bibhu Prasad Routray convicted Behera for possessing disproportionate asset worth Rs 3.48 lakh.

Behera was also slapped a fine of Rs 34,800, and if it was not paid he would have to undergo additional jail term of eight months.

Behera, against whom a case of disproportionate asset case worth Rs 4.86 lakh was made in 1990, retired from the government service as the additional secretary under rural development department.
