Ex-investment banker Mahua Moitra has assets of over Rs 2.5 cr

Former investment banker Mahua Moitra, contesting the upcoming West Bengal Assembly election on Trinamool Congress ticket, has declared assets worth over Rs 2.5 crore.

In her affidavit filed before the Election Commission, the 42-year-old has declared movable assets which include cash in hand, bank balance, an SUV and jewellery totalling around Rs 2.5 crore.

Moitra, who left her lucrative job as vice-president of JP Morgan in London in 2008, is now contesting from Karimpur seat in Nadia district.

In the papers, her income for the year 2015-16 was less than Rs 5.5 lakh. She claims to own no immovable property.
 

Moitra graduated with economics and mathematics from Mount Holyoke College, Massachusetts in 1998 and had a successful career in investment banking before joining Youth Congress in 2008. Two years later she switched over to Trinamool Congress.
