Former Ranchi Mayor Rama Khalkho was today remanded to police custody by a special vigilance court for questioning on her role in the alleged cash-for-votes case.

Delivering the order, Judicial Magistrate A R K Sinha allowed the police to take Khalkho in remand for three days.

Khalkho had on Tuesday surrendered to the court, which had sent her to 14 days judicial remand.

She had been absconding after the CJM's court had issued arrest warrants on April 9 following an FIR lodged against her and two others following seizure of Rs 21.9 lakh from a hotel on April 7 where the three were allegedly present.

The FIR said that the money was allegedly kept for electoral malpractice, leading the State Election Commission to scrap the April 8 mayoral elections.

The two other persons, who were arrested in the case, were identified as Niranjan Shah and Sudhir Kumar Sahu.
