Police today arrested a former militant and four of his family members while they were on their way from Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoK) to Poonch district in Jammu and Kashmir.

Nazir Hussain, who was returning back from PoK to his home in Poonch along with his wife and three children were arrested in Surankote at Poonch today, a senior police officer said.

Acting on a tip off about their return, a police team led by Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Poonch, Shamsher Hussain, nabbed them near Jogimarh in Surankote.

According to a government policy, militants who abjure violence and pledge loyalty to India, can return after official approval via four designated routes - Poonch-Rawlakote and Uri-Muzaffarabad in Jammu and Kashmir, Wagah in Punjab and New Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport.

"Nazir and his family reached the state from PoK via Nepal and Lucknow," the officer said adding, he had crossed over to PoK in 2001 and had joined Harkat-ul-Jehadi-Islami (HUJI) to get arms training.
