Former Bihar minister Baidyanath Sahni today lodged an FIR against the in-laws of his widowed daughter for killing her to grab her property.

Sahni alleged that her daughter Sangeeta Kumari (32) was killed by her in-laws for grabbing her share of property at Baragaon village under Khodavandpur police station in Begusarai district.

Sahni has lodged an FIR with Khodavandpur police station against seven persons from her in-laws' family, Khodavandpur police station SHO Rubikany Kachhap said.

After getting information that his daughter had a quarrel with in-laws for property, he along with his relatives went to his daughter's village Baragaon on July 20 where he saw that her parents-in-law, brother-in-law and sister-in-law were trying to snatch 300 grams of gold jewellery which he had given to his daughter on her marriage, Sahni complained.

The in-laws were also demanding Rs 5 lakh from his daughter but she refused to oblige, he said in the FIR.

On this, Sangeeta's brother-in-law Pankaj Kumar hit her with a large stone on the chest injuring her seriously, Sahni said.

He took his daughter in his vehicle and admitted her to a private clinic in Samastipur in a critical condition, from where the doctors referred her to a Begusarai hospital for better treatment.

But she died yesterday evening while being taken to Begusarai, the former minister said adding that he has kept his three grand children (three sons of Sangeeta) with him as there is danger to their lives.

The SHO said the matter is being investigated.

Sangeeta's husband Santosh Sahni died a year ago due to illness.

Shahni was a JD(U) leader and Animal Husbandry and Fisheries Minister. He joined the BJP in October last year.
