A man, who had served as a personal assistant to a former Union minister, was arrested here today for allegedly cheating a businessman of Rs 60 lakh by promising him nomination as a member of Visakha Shipping Port.

The accused T Satyanarayana promised one G Ramesh, who is into travel business, that he can get him nominated to the Port as a member which is done by Central Government, said Rachakonda Police Commissioner Mahesh M Bhagwat.

Satyanarayana had worked as the PA to Killi Krupa Rani who had served as a minister in the erstwhile Congress-led UPA government.

Ramesh was told that if he was willing to pay Rs 60 lakh, he can get the nomination as the member.

"After Ramesh gave the amount to Satyanarayana between July 2015 and February 2016, the accused in turn gave him one paper which was signed in the name of Union minister Nitin Gadkari and stated that he is being appointed as the Member of Visakha Port," the officer said.

After realising that it was a fake letter and after enquiring in New Delhi about the accused who had stopped receiving his calls, Ramesh found that Satyanarayana had already cheated around 10 persons promising them jobs in courts, and lodged a complaint with police.

Satyanaryana, a native of Odhisa, got acquainted with Killi Krupa Rani, and became her PA.

"However, as he was indulging in cheating activities by promising public of government jobs and collecting money from them, he was removed from job," the commissioner said.
