Ex-naxal commander surrenders in Gadchiroli

A former naxal commander Gopi Niriasai Darbari Madavi, carrying a reward of Rs 12 lakhs on his head, surrendered before the Gadchiroli police.

Madavi belonged to Korchi dalam (group of rebels) in Gadchiroli and was involved in as many as 18 encounters in and around the district, surrendered before the police yesterday, a statement of Gadchiroli police said.

After the Maharashtra government renewed its Naxal surrender policy and with 48 ultras surrendering in the state last year, as many as 25 naxals gave up arms this year so far.
