Ex-revenue official awarded 1yr RI for taking bribe

A court here today sentenced a former revenue official, caught while accepting bribe, to one year rigorous imprisonment.

The court of special judge, Anti-Corruption, Jammu, A K Koul, convicted Mangat Ram Sharma, the then Patwari Halqa, Parladhpur Phallian Mandal, Jammu, after he was caught red handed for demanding and accepting bribe of Rs 1,800 from a complainant in 2007, a SVO official said.

The judge found Sharma guilty and convicted him to one year rigorous imprisonment for offence punishable under section 5(2)(d) J&K PC Act and a fine of Rs 1,000 and a one year imprisonment for offence punishable under section 161 of RPC and both the sentences shall run concurrently, he said.
 

In default of payment of fine, the convict shall further undergo imprisonment for one month, he said.
