Excess water discharge from Pong dam damages paddy crop

Paddy grown over 300-acre land was damaged after excess water discharged from Pong dam into Bear river, inundated several villages here today.

"Water entered several villages including Mehtabpur, Golian, Chack Bhaiyan and Motle in Mukerian sub division where standing crops in about 300 acres of land submerged in knee deep water.

"Water also entered villages like Salempur, Talli, Fatekula and Abdulapur in Dasuya sub division," Deputy Commissioner Varun Roojam said.

Though there could be flood-like situation in view of about 60,000 cusecs of water released from Pong reservoir today, he said the situation was under control.

Roojam, however, said the loss occurred to standing crops in affected villages was yet to be assessed.
 

The administration was fully geared up to deal with a flood-like situation, SDM Mukerian, Rahul Chabha said.
