Exchange of old notes: Police holds discussions with officials

With citizens all set to deposit and exchange now-defunct old high-denomination bank notes of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 at banks and post offices for new notes starting tomorrow, city police here today held discussions on various related matters.

Chennai Police Commissioner S George held a meeting with senior police officers and discussed about bandobust arrangements for the smooth exchange of cash at various banks and post offices, a police release said.

"Bank Security In-charge Officers were summoned and senior Bank Officers were contacted to work out the modalities to be followed in transporting cash from cash chest to various branches of Banks and ATMs in the city.
 

"Adequate bandobust arrangements have been made at all the branches of banks and Post Offices, to regulate the crowd and to prevent any untoward incident," it said.

"About 3,000 cops were deployed for the above duty and patrol vehicles and special mobile units are instructed to frequent the banks," it said, adding, Home Guards have also been pressed into service.

Traffic police personnel have been instructed to regulate the traffic near the banks and ATMs to ensure smooth movement of traffic, it said.
