Excise department conducts raids, seizes 138 cartons of liquor

A person has been arrested and over 130 illegal cartons of liquor seized in two raids conducted near here, an official said today.

Excise Department conducted raids in the different areas of the district to check liquor smuggling which has proliferated ahead of Holi festival.

District excise officer Karunendra Singh said that during checking yesterday excise team intercepted a car near Kanawani village culvert in Indirapuram area and arrested a bootlegger who was ferrying the smuggled liquor from Haryana.

Eight cartons of Indian made foreign liquor, stashed in the car were confiscated. Owner Ajay, a resident of Bhojpur town has been nabbed and car has been seized, Singh said.
 

Acting on a tip off, the excise team broke open the lock of a room and impounded 81 cartons of liquor from Bharat nagar of Khoda colony.

Following another tip off, raids were conducted on locked houses in Rahul garden and Sarswati Vihar colonies of Loni and a total of 57 cartons were seized.

Excise team has lodged an FIR under 60 excise act and sent the liquor smuggler Ajay to jail. Police are probing the case and trying to nab the bootlegger who stashed the smuggled liquor in houses to sell during Holi festival. Singh added.
