Excise officer arrested for taking bribe

The Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) sleuths today arrested an excise officer for allegedly taking a bribe of Rs 10,000 from a contractor in Baran district.

Assistant Excise Officer Om Prakesh Soni, posted in Baran district, was arrested for accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000 from a wine shop contractor J S Gujjar, Additional Superintend of Police (ACB), Baran, Rajendra Singh Gogawat said.

The accused officer had demanded Rs 10,000 monthly from the contractor, who runs two wine shops in the Baran town, he said.

The contractor lodged a compliant with the ACB this morning following which a trap was laid to nab the official, Gogawat said.
 

A search operation at the residence of the accused official in Kota was carried out and investigation in the matter is underway, the ASP said, adding that Soni would be produced in an ACB court in Kota tomorrow.
