An official of the Central Excise Department was today arrested for allegedly taking a bribe of Rs 20 lakh from the chairman of a company.
Central Excise Superintendent Amarjit Singh Dhaliwal was arrested by the Punjab Vigilance Bureau, said SSP of the bureau Satinder Singh.
The SSP said Dhaliwal was arrested on the complaint of Gurdip Singh Jhujar who had alleged that he was demanding Rs 3 crore for issuing clearance certificate in connection with an audit of his company.
Dhaliwal was nabbed after he came out of a local hotel with a bag containing Rs 20 lakh that he had taken as first instalment of the bribe amount, he said.
