Excise sleuths destroy 3,700 kg of illicit liquor in J-K

In a series of raids on illicit distilleries here, Excise Department sleuths have destroyed 3,700 kg of illicit liquor known locally as 'Lahan'.

In the raids which were carried out yesterday, 1,200 kg of illicit liquor was destroyed in Kathua district while 2,500 kg and 10 bottles of Lahan were destroyed in Dhabwal, Tanda, Budhi, Lower Sakta Chak and Upper Sakta Chak villages, an Excise Department official said today.

Similar raids were also conducted in other areas ofJammu Division to check the menace, he said.

A campaign has also been started to prevent overcharging, the official said, adding that the department was cracking down on liquor parties celebrated in different parts of State without obtaining permission.
 

All hotels and banquet hall operators have been warnedof strict action in case any violation is noticed in this regard, he added.
