A formal announcement on the constituencies to be contested by the Left parties in Tamil Nadu can be expected on March 17, CPI State Secretary D Pandian said here today.

"Our State Council meeting will be held on Mar 15 in Tiruchirappalli and CPI(M)'s State Committee meeting has been slated to be held here on Mar 16..A decision on the seats that will be contested by us will be made known soon after or on Mar 17 at the most," he told PTI.

The Left parties decided to face the polls in the state jointly after the ruling AIADMK parted ways with them on March 4.

Vowing to pursue "alternative policies," intended to bring about change in the country through a non-Congress and non-BJP regime, the Left parties will take a final decision on the constituencies to be contested in their respective meetings.

North Chennai, Kanyakumari, Madurai, Tenkasi, Nagapattinam, Krishnagiri, Tirupur and Coimbatore are among the constituencies the Left parties are expected to field candidates, sources said.
