The Telangana government today urged bankers to expedite disbursal of RuPay cards and activate debit cards that have been already distributed to customers to promote cashless transactions.

Sandeep Kumar Sultania, Chairman of Task Force set up by the State Government to promote digital transactions, told a meeting of bankers to seed Aadhaar cards to the bank accounts and also to enhance use of RuPay cards.

RuPay is an Indian version of debit card promoted by National Payments Corporation of India, which was set up with support of the RBI and Indian Banks' Association.

The Task Force decided to urge the RBI to provide Rs 100 crore to post offices and to distribute currency in small denomination notes in rural areas, a state government release said.

The bankers were urged to encourage businessmen and traders to have PoS (point of sale) machines. They were also requested to furnish details on increase in digital transactions after November 8 when the demonetisation decision was announced by the Centre.
