Expelled Samajwadi Party leader Jayaprada today said she would join any party provided she gets a "respectful invitation" even as she hailed Prime Minister Narendra Modi for demonetisation of high value notes.

"Except Samajwadi Party, I will join any party if I am invited with respect," the yesteryear actress said after paying her obeisance at the Saibaba shrine here.

Attacking the SP, she said women do not get any respect or dignity in the Uttar Pradesh party. "I will never go to SP which has leaders like Azam Khan," she added.

She dubbed "improper" the "donkey" jibe taken by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav at Modi in an election rally recently.

"The donkey comment by Akhilesh is wrong. Modi's decision to demonetise (high value currencies) was right, though people faced problems initially. I am thankful to Modi for this," she said.

The former MP said UP was reduced to "gundaraj" in reign of the SP.

"Women and girls are not safe in Uttar Pradesh. Incidents of rape are on rise while the state government is unable to maintain strict law and order there," she alleged.

Responding to a query, Jayaprada said she was not against Akhilesh though she stood with Mulayam Singh Yadav.

"Akhilesk is like my brother and Mulayamji is like my father," she said.
