Amid concerns that soil erosion triggered by Ganga river could result in loss of land in Murshidabad district of West Bengal, an expert team today carried out an on-the-spot assessment of the extent of damage.

A team headed by the member (Planning) in the Ganga Flood Control Commission and comprising experts from other central and state organisations visited various blocks in Jangipur area of Murshidabad district to assess the extent of erosion caused by the river.

The team is expected to submit its report to the Union Water Resources Ministry within a month, an official statement said here.

The team was set up following a request by the Congress MP from Jangipur, Abhijit Mukherjee, who is also the son of President Pranab Mukherjee.
