Experts in healthcare and allied areas from 25 countries will take part in the first global health conference on social marketing and social franchising to identify global best practices.

The three-day 'Global Health Conference on Social Marketing and Franchising' will begin here tomorrow, aimed at showcasing successful Public Private Partnership (PPP) and social marketing and social franchising - two emerging tools to help India achieve the universal health coverage - models.

The meet is being organised by HLFPPT, a not-for-profit trust promoted by the mini-Ratna public sector enterprise HLL Lifecare Ltd, with the support of Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Indian Institute of Corporate Affairs (IICA), HLL and National AIDS Control Organisation (NACO).

Addressing a press conference here today, M Ayyappan, chairman, Hindustan Latex Family Planning Promotion Trust (HLFPPT), said the meet would identify global best practices and evolve a pathway for India.

"Besides showcasing successful Public Private Partnership, Social Marketing and Social Franchising models, the global conference will also sensitise policy-makers and prospective private-sector partners, identify best practices globally and encourage cross-learning," he said.

Social marketing, the best way to make behavioural change, has been limited only to contraceptives in India, Ayyappan said.

"This can be extended beyond the health sector as effective tools for reaching out," he said.
