A blast ripped through a chemical plant in east China's Shandong Province tonight, days after a deadly warehouse explosion in Tianjin city killed at least 121 people.

No casualties were reported yet, state-run Xinhua news agency said in a report.

The explosion took place at around 8:50 PM local time in Huantai County, triggering a fire, according to the sources.

A witness said that more than a dozen fire engines are battling the fire.

Tonight's explosion followed massive blasts at a warehouse in Tianjin port on Aug 12 storing about 3,000 tonnes of chemicals in which 121 people were killed and 54 others missing.

Over 700 people were injured in the incident which raised spectre of chemical contamination of air and water sources in the city.
