Police in Chhattisgarh Tuesday seized explosive material, including 17 sacks of ammonium nitrate and 45 detonators, from the house of a farmer in Raigarh district, an official said.

Police have arrested the accused Bhuvneshwar Sahu (38) as he failed to produce requisite documents.

"Acting on a specific input, a police team raided Sahu's house in Sukhpali village in Saria area of the district bordering Odisha and recovered 17 sacks of ammonium nitrate- each weighing 50 kg, four bundles of wires used in triggering blasts and 45 detonators," said Raigarh superintendent of police Rajesh Agrawal.

Sahu had allegedly purchased the material from neighbouring Odisha for the purpose of selling it to mining contractors in the area, he said.

"He was arrested as he failed to produce documents in support of storing the explosives," the SP said.

A case has been registered and further probe is underway.

A local court remanded Sahu in judicial remand for 14 days.
