Explosive materials, including gelatine sticks, were seized from a Coimbatore-bound passenger bus at Masinagudi near here on Tamil Nadu-Kerala border and one person was detained for interrogation, police said.

The seizure was made during a vehicle check at Kakkanalla Check Post following a tip off that explosives were being transported in the bus coming from Gundlupet in Karnataka, they said.

The bus with 46 passengers onboard was taken to the Masinagudi police station and a thorough search yielded 100 detonators, 40 gelatine sticks and two meter of fuse wire, kept in a bag.

One person has been detained for interrogation in connection with the seizure, police said, adding senior officials would question him.

As there was suspected movement of naxals in the area bordering Kerala, the seizure has assumed significance.
