Press Trust of India Puducherry
Puducherry unit of DMK today urged the election authorities to extend by ten days the last date for filing of applications by eligible persons for inclusion in the electoral rolls in the Union Territory.

Convenor of state committee Dr M A S Subramanian said in a release here that the election authorities had announced that submission of forms for the inclusion in electoral rolls by those completing 18 years on January 1, 2015 would be admitted till November 10.

But ever since the drive began on October 15 there had been near incessant rains here dislocating normal life and so those intending to enrol themselves in the voters list could not present the forms. Hence the last date should be extended by ten more days till November 20, he said.

There were instances of voters residing in once place but were having the electoral photo identity cards containing different address, Dr Subramanian alleged.

This should be scrutinised by comparing with the addresses in ration cards or aadhaar cards and improper possession of the cards should be weeded out, he said.
