Leader of Opposition in the Maharashtra Assembly Vijay Wadettiwar on Tuesday demanded an extension of a month for farmers to file crop insurance premium.

The time to pay this premium ends in July, he said.

In a statement, Wadettiwar said many farmers had not been able to pay their crop insurance premium during the Kharif season and hence should be given a month's time, adding that sowing was not up to the mark due to a weak monsoon.

He claimed Kharif sowing was not even 50 per cent in Vidarbha and Marathwada, while crop loan disbursement is less than 50 per cent.

"Due to this, farmers are finding it difficult to pay crop insurance premium," he said.
